About

Dr. Sarah Beranek, a particle physicist by trade, has over 10 years of experience in data analysis, working in multiple international collaborations at CERN, where she was fortunate to be present during the Higgs particle discovery. She received a degree in physics in 2011 and a PhD in experimental particle physics from RWTH Aachen University in 2017. In her thesis, she developed and implemented a statistical approach to search for new particles through which she gained extended experience with statistical methods, such as simulations and Machine Learning techniques.  Sarah joined the AppTek science team in 2019 as a speech recognition scientist. AppTek is a global leader in human language technologies, servicing the call centre, government and media markets with its home-grown speech, translation, and natural language processing solutions. Now, instead of reconstructing elementary particles and studying the nature of the universe. Sarah is enthusiastic about new challenges in the reconstruction of human voice to text, in applications that cater to the needs of deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals, media monitoring and speech analytics, or in ground-breaking applications of speech translation such as automatic dubbing.
